Your personal communication skill is essential if you want to succeed in life. But how can you get good personal communication skill? While there are a lot of methods and techniques available when it comes to personal communication, there is something that becomes a foundation: your mind.

It’s obvious that you can only communicate what you have in mind. You need to think about something before you can express it through your words. You need to form the ideas in your mind first before it can be communicated to other people. So the clarity of your personal communication is greatly affected by the clarity of your mind. You can only have a good personal communication if you have a clear mind in the first place. On the other hand, there is no way you can communicate well if your mind is confused.

But how can we have a clear mind? This is a question that can’t be answered easily. In fact, people can write books just to answer this one question. But here I’d like to give you just an idea on how to have a clear mind: practice. Just like many other things in life, you need to practice if you want to achieve something valuable. Your mind is no exception. You need to learn to arrange your ideas and express them in a clear and logical way.

One way to practice is through writing. Think about a topic in your mind and then find the ideas you’d like to get across related to that point. Of course, you can’t just throw the ideas out on paper as they come to you. You need to arrange the ideas in such a way that the next ideas are build upon the previous ones. Your readers should be able to build the ideas on their minds without losing a piece. After arranging the ideas, write them down in a short essay. You can then ask your friend to read your essay and give you feedback. From the feedback you should know whether or not you can get the point across and whether or not your friend can absorb it easily.

Through practices like this you build your clarity of mind and in turn your personal communication skill. There are other methods and techniques you can use to improve your personal communication skill but practice is an essential one.
